A good life, and a good death. 'It's whit we dae...'
Our residents - the ‘weans’ - come into our care from many situations. Some - many - have been abandoned, unwanted, neglected and/or abused and have never known what it feels like to be loved and safe. Some have been loved but their person has become ill or died and they want to know that their beloved friend is safe when they are no longer able to care for them. We especially like when we can help in this way and give people this comfort and peace of mind.
The Weans!
Some are already in the last weeks or months of their lives, and finding themselves unwanted and unloved, need a safe, kind home where they can take their final steps with a friend by their side. Some are simply ‘unwanted’ and have no where else to go - this is true for most of the cockerel lads, who are the least wanted of all. Many of the sanctuary dogs need specialist, life-long care due to their history of abuse, neglect, breed or trauma.
But all of the sadness and loneliness they have known in life is left at the gate when they come aboard 'The Good Ship Ringliggate'; here, they finally know love, kindness, respect, freedom, dignity, happiness... and the joy and chaos of oor infamous 'Car Picnics!'.
From 'Cosy Corners' for the wee auldies Lola and Mini, Bunches' infamous 'Cocoon', our new 'Sit-Ootery' and caravan for our special needs boy CrackerJack, to 'Mastin Mountain' and the purpose-built play areas, bedrooms and 'hing-oot' spaces for the Sanctuary Dogs, a large and very homely Catio for oor cat folk, two 'Bachelor Villages' for the cockerel lads - as well as a beautiful, very Scottish hillside for the pig folk and the sheep - from what was a run down, neglected small holding in 2018 has emerged Ringliggate Village... very happy wee place, full of very happy weans.
Here, they are finally free to be themselves and find their inner puppies (or chicks!), and know what it is to be loved, cherished and have a life worth living, for however long they have left.
We make a promise to everyone who comes aboard; 'When you tell us it's time, we promise we'll listen. Until then, let's enjoy life!'
